About the Author
Tulia G. Falleti is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Pennsylvania. Her work on decentralization, federalism, and research methodology has appeared in the American Political Science Review, Comparative Political Studies, Publius, Qualitative Sociology, Critique Internationale (France), Desarrollo Económico (Argentina), Política y Gobierno (Mexico), and Sociologias (Brazil), as well as in edited volumes published in the United States, Argentina, and Brazil. She has received awards and fellowships from the Social Science Research Council, the United States Institute of Peace, the Ford Foundation in conjunction with the Latin American Studies Association, and the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Productive Innovation of Argentina. In 2006, she earned the Gregory Luebbert Award from the American Political Science Association for the best article in comparative politics for her article 'A Sequential Theory of Decentralization: Latin American Cases in Comparative Perspective.'

The author explores specific cases and provides a comprehensive analysis of each. The main thing to take is that the order of decentralization policies matter. About the Author
J. Andrew DeWoody did his undergraduate studies in wildlife and fisheries sciences at Texas A&M University. After a brief stint as a field biologist with the now-defunct Soil Conservation Service, he returned to Texas A&M to earn an M.S. in genetics under the tutelage of Drs Rodney Honeycutt and Loren Skow. DeWoody's Ph.D. in zoology is from Texas Tech University, where he worked with Robert Baker. DeWoody then spent three years as a postdoctoral student with John Avise at the University of Georgia in the Department of Genetics. His recent research in genetics, evolution, and ecology has been funded by a variety of organizations, including the National Science Foundation, the USDA-National Research Initiative, the Great Lakes Fishery Trust, the National Geographic Society, and the Joint Transportation Research Program. DeWoody has published more than 65 papers in 35 different scientific journals, and he has served as associate editor for the North American Journal of Fisheries Management, the Journal of Wildlife Management, and Genetica.

John W. Bickham is Professor of the Department of Forestry and Natural Resources (FNR) and Director of the Center for the Environment (C4E) at Purdue University. John received his B.S. in biology from the University of Dayton in 1971, his M.S. in biology from the University of Dayton in 1973, and his Ph.D. in zoology from Texas Tech University in 1976. He worked as a faculty member at Texas A&M University in the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences from 1976 to 2006. He joined the faculty at Purdue in 2006. Dr Bickham has published more than 200 papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals in various areas of evolutionary genetics, including comparative cytogenetics, molecular systematics, molecular ecology, and ecotoxicology.

Charles H. Michler is the Fred M. van Eck Director of the Hardwood Tree Improvement and Regeneration Center at Purdue University. In addition, he is site director of the National Science Foundation I/UCRC Center for Advanced Forest Systems. His research interests include forest genetics, in vitro culture, and genetic modification. He earned his B.S. in landscape horticulture and architecture and his M.S. and Ph.D. in horticulture, physiology, and biochemistry from Ohio State University. Dr Michler is also the editor of Plant Breeding Reviews and associate editor of the Journal of Forest Research. Dr Michler has more than 85 scholarly publications, and he has been editor of 9 books and proceedings in his subject area.

Krista Nichols is an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Biological Sciences and Forestry and Natural Resources at Purdue University. She received her B.S. in marine science from the University of South Carolina in 1994 and her M.S. in fisheries and wildlife from Michigan State University in 1997. Dr Nichols earned her Ph.D. in zoology from Washington State University in 2002 and was a National Research Council postdoctoral Fellow at the National Marine Fisheries Services, Northwest Fisheries Science Center, until 2005, when she joined the faculty at Purdue. Dr Nichols has published in the fields of ecotoxicology, genetics, and ecology. Her current research interests lie at the intersection of evolution, genetics, physiology, and ecology.

Gene Rhodes is a Professor in the Department of Forestry and Natural Resources (FNR) at Purdue University and Director of the Purdue Interdisciplinary Center for Ecological Sustainability. He received his B.S. in biology from Furman University in 1983, his M.S. in wildlife biology from Clemson University 1986, and his Ph.D. in wildlife ecology from Texas Tech University in 1991. Dr Rhodes worked as a Temporary Assistant Research Ecologist at the University of Georgia's Savannah River Ecology Laboratory from 1991 to 1995. He was named a Purdue University Faculty Scholar in 2006; was named the Outstanding Graduate Educator in Forestry and Natural Resources in 2005, 2006, 2008, and 2009; was awarded the Hoosier Wildlife Award by the Indiana Chapter of the Wildlife Society in 2007; and was the recipient of the North Central Section of the Wildlife Society Profession Award of Merit in 2008. He has published more than 135 peer-reviewed scholarly works encompassing a wide variety of topics in ecology and genetics and recently served as an associate editor for the Journal of Wildlife Management.

Keith Woeste is a Research Molecular Geneticist for the USDA Forest Service Northern Research Station Hardwood Tree Improvement and Regeneration Center, and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Purdue University's Department of Forestry and Natural Resources. He received his B.S. in botany in 1980 from the University of Florida and his M.Div. in theology in 1986 from the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley. He also earned an M.S. in horticulture in 1990 from the University of California-Davis and a Ph.D. in genetics in 1995 from the University of California, Davis.

Salamanders aren't reptiles

All I've seen of this book is Amazon's "Look Inside" preview (limited to a few pages). In the index, under reptiles, you will find "see also California Tiger Salamander."

Perhaps I'm being overly critical. Perhaps it's just a typo. Perhaps I'm jaded by my experiences with some wildlife biologists that use "molecular approaches" who couldn't identify any of the animals that they are researching.

Perhaps I'll wait for other reviews of the actual book. (As I said, I haven't seen it yet.)

About the Author
Patricia A. McAnany is Kenan Eminent Professor of Anthropology at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. A Maya archaeologist who has conducted field research and cultural heritage programs through the Maya region, she is the founder of the Maya Area Cultural Heritage Initiative and co-founder of InHerit: Indigenous Heritage Passed to Present (www.in-herit.org). She is the author or co-editor of several books, most recently Textile Economies: Power and Value from the Local to the Transnational (2011), co-edited with Walter E. Little; Ancestral Maya Economies in Archaeological Perspective (Cambridge University Press, 2010); Questioning Collapse: Human Resilience, Ecological Vulnerability, and the Aftermath of Empire (2009), co-edited with Norman Yoffee; and Dimensions of Ritual Economy (2008), co-edited with E. Christian Wells. About the Author
Terrence McDonough is Professor of Economics at the School of Business and Economics, the National University of Ireland, Galway. He has also held teaching positions at Cornell University, Canisius College, Buffalo, and Dublin City University. Professor McDonough has authored articles in the areas of globalization, political economy, American and Irish economic history, public policy, the history of economic thought, and the philosophy of economics. He is the author, co-author, or co-editor of Was Ireland a Colony? Economics, Politics, Ideology and Culture in the Irish Nineteenth Century (2005), Mind Your Own Business: Economics at Work (with David Jacobson and Keith Warnock, 2001), Uninhabited Ireland: Tara, the M3, and Public Spaces in Galway (with Lionel Pilkington and Aine Ni Leime, 2009), and Social Structures of Accumulation: The Political Economy of Growth and Crisis (with Michael Reich and David M. Kotz, Cambridge University Press, 1994). His current research interests include globalization, American and Irish economic history, and political economy.

Michael Reich is Professor of Economics and Director of the Institute for Research on Labor and Employment at the University of California, Berkeley. He is the author, co-author, editor, or co-editor of thirteen titles in labor, industrial relations, and economic studies, including Racial Inequality: A Political-Economic Analysis (1981), Segmented Work, Divided Workers: The Historical Transformation of Labor in the United States (1982), The Capitalist System (1986), the aforementioned Social Structures of Accumulation (1994), Work and Pay in the United States and Japan (1997), the two-volume Labor Market Segmentation and Labor Mobility (2008), and Labor in the Era of Globalization (Cambridge University Press, 2009).

David M. Kotz is Professor of Economics at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where he has been on the faculty since 1978. He previously taught at the American University in Washington, DC. Professor Kotz's previous books include Russia's Path from Gorbachev to Putin (with Fred Weir, 2007), Revolution from Above: The Demise of the Soviet System (with Fred Weir, 1997), Bank Control of Large Corporations in the USA (1978), and the aforementioned title Social Structures of Accumulation: The Political Economy of Growth and Crisis (with Terrence McDonough and Michael Reich, 1994). He has also published in journals such as the Review of Radical Political Economics, the Monthly Review, and Science and Society. Professor Kotz is Vice President of the World Association for Political Economy, and his research interests include macroeconomics, institutional change in capitalist economies, and the economies of Russia and China.

About the Author
Dr Joseph P. S. Kung is Professor of Mathematics at the University of North Texas. He is currently an editor-in-chief for the journal Advances in Applied Mathematics.

Gian-Carlo Rota (1932-1999) was a Professor of Applied Mathematics and Natural Philosophy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was a member of the National Academy of Science. He was awarded the 1988 Steele Prize of the American Mathematical Society for his 1964 paper 'On the Foundations of Combinatorial Theory I. Theory of Moebius Functions.' He was the founding editor of the Journal of Combinatorial Theory.

Catherine H. Yan is a Professor of Mathematics at Texas A & M University. She was a Courant Instructor at New York University (1997-1999) and a Sloan Fellow (2001-2003).
