About the Author
Ben Ambridge is a Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Liverpool. He has published numerous articles on child language acquisition with a particular focus on the acquisition of syntax and morphology and the retreat from overgeneralization error.

Elena Lieven is a Professor and Senior Researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, Leipzig and the Director of the Max Planck Child Study Centre, University of Manchester. She is best known for her work on naturalistic corpus data, and is a former editor of the Journal of Child Language.

useful, but could be better

This is a reasonably good pedagogical tool, and I have used it for teaching a couple times now. That is not to say that it is perfect. Some parts are rough and could still use editing. More importantly, while the book attempts to be a neutral arbiter, the authors tend to compare nuanced and up-to-date versions of their favored theories against uncharitable characterizations of relatively older versions of theories that they don't like. I do not think that this is on purpose but rather comes from the fact that both authors are very much steeped in one tradition and not as knowledgeable about the others.

I have no complaint about the text, as it covers everything in the print edition. However, the charts and diagrams in the Kindle version are illegible. Amazon, please fix this.

book ok, kindle version really not ok

Well,

I knew what I was stepping into, I read a review which said that the book is ok (it is a very nice approach to different theories on language acquisition on children) but that the kindle edition had a big issue: the graphics are not readable.

I bought the kindle version because I am located in Europe and it was easier for me both on terms of delivery and of timing of delivery. I never though about the graphics in the text, but here it matters, and a big deal. Some of the graphics are tables summarizing important things and points, you can hardily see anything in the kindle. For instance, the table summarizing the innatist approach vs other approach....Really a shame in that sense. Thus, if you are considering to buy this book, I would advice you to go for a printed version, not the kindle one. Graphics are really not good here, and this time it matters on basis of the important content they display.
